6 Ways to Improve Women's Health

Women’s health concerns are a little different from those of men. Women tend to experience stressful situations while at work or even at home, which may risk unhealthy lifestyles. Women’s health issues should not be disregarded. If you’re a woman, these tips will have you feeling fit and energetic in no time because the best way to avoid diseases, prolong your life and live more happily is to have healthy habits. Here are six (6) easy steps that women may do daily to maintain optimum health:

Health Tip #1:

A balanced diet is one of the foundations for having a healthy lifestyle. There is truth to the adage “you are what you eat.” Avoiding unhealthy foods will be the start of your balanced diet beyond weight loss and maintenance. Processed and packaged foods are often full of sugars, calories, unhealthy fats, and salts. Indulge yourself in healthier snacks such as raw vegetables, such as celery, carrots, broccoli, cucumbers, or zucchini with a dip made from low-fat yogurt.

Health Tip #2:

Regardless of age, exercise can be a real energy booster for many women, including those with various conditions. It can prevent excess weight gain; help maintain weight loss and promote heart and bone health – resulting in looking and feeling great through the seasons of life. From walking, running, and swimming to aerobics, yoga, and even dancing, there is so much choice that you can do for at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, five days a week, if not every day.

Health Tip #3:

Abstain from dangerous behaviors or harmful habits. Keep away from smokers and cigarettes. Use no drugs or prohibited substances. If you do consume alcohol, do so in light to moderate amounts. Most women’s health studies reveal that they are generally safe to consume one drink each day but be wary that each type can bring different alcohol percentages.

Health Tip #4:

Manage your stress using some relaxation techniques such as prayer or meditation, yoga, exercise, massage, and therapy. No matter what stage of a woman’s life — daughter, mother, grandmother — a woman often wears many hats and deals with a lot of pressure and stress. Adopt the practice of taking aside some time each day for yourself to unwind. Your physical and mental health are equally vital, and if they are out of sync with one another, both can be detrimental.

Health Tip #5:

Sun safely. There are health benefits of moderate sun exposure but beware of the highest UV rays during the summer and between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Working outdoors during these times increases the chances of getting sunburned. Prolonged exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays can put you at risk from sunburns to causing skin cancer, which can be deadly. If you will stay longer under the sun, wear sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 to prevent skin cancer. Seek medical attention if you have a severe sunburn, especially if it covers more than 15% of your body, are dehydrated, have a high fever, or are in extreme pain that lasts more than 48 hours.

Health Tip #6:

Have your cancer screening checks such as breast, cervical, colorectal, or lung cancer test – especially for women who are known to be at increased risk of certain cancers due to aging or health conditions. Even if you are feeling fine, regular wellness checks and health screenings can increase your chances of early detection of any problems. The American Cancer Society no longer recommends monthly breast self-exams for women. However, it still suggests them as “an option” for women, starting in their 20s. You should be on the lookout for any lump, or other unusual changes in your breasts and report any concerns to your doctor.
